"The Brave Man"
"The Brave Man"
By: Brendan Cadman
In the trappings and garments of,
a man full of courage he stood,
amongst others tall and bright.
Like a lighthouse guiding the boats,
lost in the mist towards the safety,
of the docks in the port.
he was a brave man.
Brave enough to never fear,
what may or may not lurk in the shadows.
he was a brave man.
Brave enough to never fear the,
monsters hiding in the back of dark closets.
he was a brave man.
Brave enough to never lose any sleep,
over the myths and tales told around,
the roaring flames of a campfire.
he was a brave man.
Brave enough to journey through,
homes haunted by spirits of long ago.
he was a brave man.
Brave enough to extend himself with,
an open heart to friend and foe alike.
he was a brave man.
Brave enough to never fear losing,
himself on the uncharted road into the unknown.
he was a brave man.
Brave enough to understand that death,
is a certainty of life and to use it to,
help him truly live.
She knew as soon as their eyes,
locked from across the crowded room.
When he looked at Her and when,
She looked back at him.
She saw right through his charade.
She knew he was afraid.
Afraid that he would never be enough.
She knew he was afraid.
Afraid to have Her unconditional trust,
and to give his in return.
She knew he was afraid.
Afraid to show Her his insecurities,
and to be weak around her.
She knew he was afraid.
Afraid to open his heart to her,
unsure if it had ever stopped bleeding.
She knew he was afraid.
Afraid that She would grow to resent him.
She knew he was afraid.
Afraid that She would hurt him.
She knew he was afraid.
Afraid to put the pieces back together,
only to break again.
She knew he was afraid.
so he stayed broken.
he stayed closed.
he ran.
he ran from the terrifying thought,
of being vulnerable.
he ran from opening himself up,
and risk being comforted by Her.
he ran from Her love.
She knew he was a coward,
disguised as a brave man.
