"In A City Of One Million"
"In A City Of One Million"

Skyscrapers rise from the sprawling canvas,
of a bustling city as the buildings pierce the clouds,
and knock on heaven's gate.
Constellations blurred out of sight,
from the glaring headlights and,
luminosity of blazing marquees,
guiding star-crossed lovers on,
an imminently unspoken collision course of worlds.
Eyes of blue scan the crowded room in innocent curiosity,
all the while being undeniably pulled into,
the magnetic trance of a pair of emerald green.
There stood a boy quiet and content,
to hold up the boulder life placed on his shoulders.
Looking but not searching nor seeking,
for anything more than what he is.
Afraid to place his life and worth,
into the hands of a stranger,
avoiding the cloaked daggers tip aimed for his heart.
There stood a girl looking to be loved,
for more than what was forthwith and self-evident.
Untethered by the past and unburden by the flaws,
the swinging door of her heart open to,
the beauty of love for something perfectly imperfect.
Two jagged jigsaw pieces trying to force,
themselves into unsuited spaces of,
a pictured unsettlingly incomplete.
A flammable concoction of kindred spirits,
igniting a passion so hot seemingly,
no wave or typhoon could drown.
Once a bullet proof alliance,
deflecting and withstanding all worry,
now frail and fragile from the battle.
Old haunts now succumbed to an unbreachable,
quarantine from the icy fear of pain.
Familiar paths littered with memories forsaken,
for the uncharted destinations of roads less traveled.
Valiantly as the fight to forget may be,
there is no escape from one even in a city of one million.
As thoughts remain a hiding place not granted,
from what is already sown into your mind and in your heart.
